Illinois Statutes § 5/5-6 Re-registration procedure upon adoption of election provisions

Up to Article 5: Registration of Electors in Counties Having a Population of 500,000 or More

Subject to the provisions of Section 5-19 of this Article 5, in addition to the registration authorized at the offices of the County Clerk, city clerk, town clerk, incorporated town clerk and village clerk under Section 5-5 of this Article 5, and that provided by Section 5-17 of this Article 5, there shall be three days of re-registration in each precinct as established by the Board of County Commissioners for county and township elections. The first of said three days of re-registration shall be Friday, September 15, 1961; the second of said three days of re-registration shall be Friday, October 13, 1961 and the third of said three days of re-registration shall be Tuesday, March 13, 1962. On each of the said three days of re-registration the registration places shall open at eight o'clock a. m. and remain open until nine o'clock p. m. It shall be the duty of the County Board to appoint the place of registry in each precinct and the provisions of Section 5-3 of this Article 5 shall apply thereto.
The re-registration provided by this Article 5 shall constitute a permanent registration subject to revision and alteration in the manner hereinafter provided. All registrations shall be upon registration record cards provided by the County Clerk in accordance with the provisions of this Article 5.
Immediately following the first day of precinct re-registration in 1961, all permanent registration records compiled prior to September 15, 1961, shall be destroyed if no election contest is pending in which such records are material.
