Dear Mr. Wilkinson:
Attorney General A. F. Summer has received your letter of September 15, 1979, and has assigned it to the undersigned for research and reply. Please find a copy of your letter for ready reference attached, in which you expressed concern regarding the petition procedure for the holding of elections for the legalization of beer, wine and alcoholic beverages in Amite County, Mississippi.
This office is statutorily limited to rendering opinions and advice to certain statutorily designated state and local public officials and to them only as to the duties of their respective offices.
However, we are pleased to enclose copies of two statutes of the Mississippi Code, Annotated, 1979, Section 67–1–11, local option election for hard liquor and 67–3–7, regarding local option elections for beer and wine.
