No. 19911127

Mississippi Attorney General Opinions

November 27, 1991

Honorable Ruth Dixon

Circuit Clerk

Post Office Box 312

Liberty, Mississippi 39645-0312

Dear Mrs. Dixon:

Attorney General Mike Moore has received your letter of request and has assigned it to me for research and reply. Your letter states:

“A counselor in the Public School is interested in being a candidate for Amite County School Board, District 1, in the 1992 Election.

Please advise me if an employee of the Amite County School System has to resign from his job when he becomes a candidate for the School Board?”

In response to your inquiry we know of nothing that would require an employee of a county school district to resign in order to be a candidate for the county board of education. Any questions regarding the holding of the two positions simultaneously should be directed to the State Ethics Commission.

Sincerely,

Mike Moore, Attorney General

Phil Carter, Special Assistant Attorney General.
