Dear Mr. Newman:
Attorney General Bill Allain has received your letter and has assigned it to me for research and reply. In your let- ter you request that you be put on the ballot as an indepen- dent candidate for President of the United States in Novem- ber of 1980.
In response to your request I am enclosing a copy of Section 23-5-134, Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended. This section deals with the election of Presidential electors. The respon- sibility for receiving requests for the candidacy of independ- ent electors rests with the Secretary of State as Election Com- missioner. I am taking the liberty of forwarding a copy of this letter and a copy of your letter to that office. The address of the Secretary of State is:
Honorable Edwin Lloyd Pittman Secretary of State Post Office Box 136 Jackson, Mississippi 39205.
I trust the above has been of some assistance to you and if I can be of any further assistance. Please do not hesitate to call upon me.
Respectfully,
