Dear Mrs. Mortimer:

Attorney General Bill Allain has received your opinion request dated June 30, 1982, and has assigned it to me for research and reply, your letter of request stating:

"In the upcoming Congressional election there is a question that has come up. Since this is an extension of the June 1 primary, when would the cut-off date for registering to vote be? We have had people to register since the June I primary, and now we are wondering if they will be eligible to vote in August.

"We would appreciate your reply to this as soon as possible, and thanks again for all the assistance you've given us through the years."

The voter registration cut-off date for participation in the congressional segment of the 1982 primary election is not less than 30 days prior to August 17, 1982, or July 18, 1982, which latter date we note to be a Sunday so that as a practical matter, the last available opportunity to register would be normal office hours prior to that latter date.

Yours very truly,

BILL ALLAIN, ATTORNEY GENERAL
