Dear Mrs. Estes:
Attorney General Allain has received your letter of request and has assigned it to me for research and reply. Your letter states:
"I have received information from the office of the Secretary of State that in order to vote in the August 2nd, 1983 Primary Election, a person has to be registered 30 days prior to that date. In checking the calendar, 30 days prior would be July 3rd, which falls on Sunday, and the following Monday is July 4th, which is a legal holiday for all State and County Officials, and the office will be closed.
Please give me your opinion as to what date would be the last day a person could register in order to be qualified to vote in the August 2nd, 1983 Primary Elections."
In response to your inquiry, since July 3, 1983, falls on a Sunday, registration must be accomplished before said date.
The last day for registration will be Saturday, July 2, 1983, if the registrar's office is open on that day. If the registrar's office is not open on that Saturday, the last day for registration will be Friday, July 1, 1983.
Very truly yours,
BILL ALLAIN, ATTORNEY GENERAL
