Dear Mr. Foster:

Attorney General Mike Moore has received your letter of request and has assigned it to me for research and reply. In your letter you ask:

May a circuit clerk appoint deputy registrars outside of her office and outside the municipal clerk's office for the purpose of voter registration?

This issue has been recently raised in Mississippi State Chapter Operation PUSH v. Mabus, No. DC 84-35-D-O (U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Miss.). Therefore, we will be unable to respond to your request by way of official Attorney General's Opinion since we do not issue opinions on matters that are in litigation.
