RE: Precinct Committeemen

Re: Publication Sample Ballots for Precinct Committeemen

Your letter of the 11th inst. re above has been received and referred to my desk.

This office has held in a number of opinions that "Precinct committeemen" are not public officers and that the election of such committeemen at the time of the primary election does not make their election a part of the primary election - their election is not a nominating election but a final election.

The primary nomination election for officers and the election of precinct committeemen are entirely separate and distinct, separate ballots being required, etc.

Therefore, it is our opinion that chapter 173, Laws of 1947, section 16-0413 of 1949 Supplement, does not require the publication of sample ballots for precinct committeemen.
