Tennessee Statutes § 2-7-101 Officer of elections
Statute Text
(a)
The officer of elections is in charge of and responsible for the conduct of all the elections being held at the polling place where such officer is the officer of elections. The officer is subject to the direction of the county election commission in the performance of such duties.
(b)
The officer of elections shall:
(1)
Maintain order at the polling place;
(2)
Assure that voting machines and voting compartments are arranged in such a way that the secrecy of the ballot is preserved and that no voter, on entering the polling place, comes near the voting machines or ballot boxes before the voter's eligibility to vote has been determined;
(3)
Keep each voting compartment provided with proper supplies for marking the ballots;
(4)
Have persons who are waiting to vote stand in line so that no person who is waiting is standing nearer than ten feet (10') to any voting machine or ballot box;
(5)
Report the breakdown of any voting machine to the voting machine technician; and
(6)
Ensure that each other election official performs such official's duties.
